Procedure: Best Paper

In order to recognize papers that stand out for their quality, iPRES awards a prize to the author(s) of the Best Paper and Honorary Mentions to two additional papers. The three top papers are selected using the following procedure.
The Programme Co-Chairs:

  • Consider the review scores of accepted papers and specify the cut-off score for including papers into a candidate pool of papers.
  • Establish the Best Paper Award Committee to review and nominate the Best Paper and two papers for Honorary Mention.

The Best Paper Award Committee comprises 4 members of the iPRES Programme Committee and a representative of the award sponsor.

The Committee members

1. Review candidate papers
2. Assign scores to the papers

  • Based on 1-5 point scale
  • Using the following subset of the original criteria for paper acceptance:
  • Does the work significantly advance knowledge in digital preservation?
  • Does the work adequately build on or contextualise previous work?
  • Is there sufficient evidence for claims presented by the authors?
  • Are there outcomes that other researchers or practitioners can benefit from?
  • Is the work original and has it been published/presented in some form before?

3. Rank papers based on the average scores and discuss the rankings to finalize selection of the top three papers.
4. Determine the Best Paper and two Honorary Mentions.
5. Advise the Programme Co-Chairs and the General Chair of the final decision.

Information about the Best Paper and two Honorary Mentions is listed on the conference website prior to the conference.
The winner will be announced at the conference dinner and receive the award there too.

Procedure: Best Poster

The best poster will be selected by the participants. All participants will receive a voting card. During the Poster session participants complete the card nominating their best poster, considering the following three aspects:

  • The presentation during the 1-minute madness session
  • The poster itself: its content and design
  • The explanations the author(s) give(s) at their poster

The voting cards must be deposited in a special box during the Poster session. Only cards that are in the box by the end of the session will be used for determining the winner.

The top three nominees from the voting will be announced at the conference and on this page.
The winner will be announced at the conference dinner and receive the award there too.
